Education ‘No evidence’ to support academy expansion plan, say MPs

MPs have raised significant concerns over the Government’s academies policy, stating there is “no evidence” to support the expansion of the programme.

 

According to a report published today, the House of Commons education select committee found a “high degree of uncertainty” around the Government’s heavy use of academies to improve standards.

 

A key concern for MPs was the move by ministers to convert underperforming schools into academies and hand them over to sponsors known as multi-academy trusts (MATs).
