Schools choose longer hours to get more holidays
Two schools in Hampshire have decided to extend their school days to increase the length of the half-term.
Fawley Infant and Blackfield Primary are part of the Inspire Learning Foundation, and are the first in the county to trial the new school day.
The change will take affect from September 2017 and will mean an extra week in October/November and additional days added to Christmas and the Summer holidays.
Before making a final decision, staff were consulted and parents were provided with an opportunity to respond to the proposals.
The school day will now begin at 0835 and finish at 1525 for Junior children and 1510 for Infant children.
