Education minister mocked after lobbying against new schools funding formula
Edward Timpson said he has made representations to the Prime Minister and Education Secretary Justine Greening, his boss in the department, over cuts to school funding in his constituency.
According to the Crewe Chronical Mr Timpson raised concerns over changes to the funding formula that would see schools in his constituency of Crewe and Nantwich lose around £2m.
Mr Timpson’s office said it was “barmy” to suggest his opposition to the changes were anything new.
The Children and Families Minister told the Crewe Chronicle: “Over the course of this consultation I’ve listened to a wide variety of views on school funding.
“It became clear to me at an early stage that it needed to be fairer for Cheshire East, and so I started a programme of formal and informal lobbying on the issue in Westminster, as well as encouraging as many of my constituents as possible to respond to the consultation.
"In addition to raising the issue with education ministers, I’ve even taken it to the Prime Minister and her policy-makers.
